Michael W. “Mickey” Vanyo is a Master’s-level graduate student, currently pursuing licensure as a Marital and Family Therapist. Mickey intends to use the lessons that he has learned firsthand in the therapeutic field to improve the functional outlook of each individual client, helping all involved to facilitate meaningful and lasting change within the critical factors of their own lives.
A steadfast proponent of artistic and play-based approaches to therapy, Mickey is particularly interested in working with children and adolescent clients. Using unconventional methods to bring about observably positive results in an engaging and enjoyable way is his ultimate goal throughout the duration of the therapeutic process.
Mickey is also known for his creative and unique approach to the growing field of Music Therapy, having successfully taught countless students how to play nearly a dozen instruments over his many years of practice. In contrast to traditional music lessons, his distinct approach seeks to use the artform of music itself as a profound conduit for self-expression, revelatory emotional insight, and progressive neurological development.

His theoretical perspective and distinct methodology as a therapist are highly influenced by the work of his many personal heroes, including (but not limited to) inspirational figures such as Isaac Farin, Arlene Brett Gordon, Insoo Kim Berg, Douglas Flemmons, Milton Erickson, Richard Brautigan, Bruce Hampton, Alan Watts, Ted Geisel, Fred Rogers, and Kermit The Frog.
Mickey’s achievements as a multimedia artist outside of his therapeutic pursuits include having worked as a writer, actor, producer, director of both film and theater, comedian, magician, musician, sculptor, painter, puppeteer, juggler, and stunt performer.
He is also a prolific marathon runner and can solve a Rubik’s cube in under 30 seconds.
