Strength Based Approaches
Solution Focused / Solution Oriented Therapy/Brief Therapy/Ericksonian Therapy
Focusing on the solutions to problems, noticing the times when the problem is not such a problem, and talking about small changes leading to bigger changes. Brief therapy does not necessarily mean only 1 or 2 sessions but it is different from the belief that therapy "must" be a long term process. The focus on therapy is discussing the relationship to the problem rather than only focusing on symptoms while establishing workable goals for change. In Ericksonian therapy, the belief is that human beings do not realize all the endless capabilities that each one has in solving their problems. Therefore, the therapist believes that the client WILL change if the client is able to tap into inner resources and recognize these capabilities and their inner strengths.
